Still have a question?
Ask us on our Get Started page and someone from our team will get back to you.

Starting therapy comes with practical questions, and you deserve clear answers before you reach out. Below are the things people ask us most often about cost, insurance, scheduling, and what working with us actually looks like. If your question isn't answered here, you can ask it on our Get Started page.

You start by completing the Therapy Inquiry Form on our Get Started page. The form asks about what you are looking for, your scheduling needs, and how you plan to pay, so we can match you with the therapist who feels like the best fit for your process. Once you submit it, someone from our team will get in touch.
Someone from our team reviews your responses and connects you directly with the therapist who looks like the closest fit. From there, you and that therapist schedule your first session, which is an intake session. You will receive your paperwork through our secure client portal before you meet.
We aim to respond to every inquiry within 24 to 48 hours.
Not at this time. Rather than a separate consultation call, we connect you with the therapist we believe is the best match and you begin with an intake session, which is a standard billed session. Part of what that first hour is for is sensing whether the fit feels right. If it doesn't, tell us. We would rather help you find the right person than have you stay somewhere that isn't working.
Either. The inquiry form lets you request a specific therapist or ask to be matched. If you would like to be matched, we review your needs and preferences and connect you with the clinician whose style and experience align with what you are looking for. You can also read about each therapist on our Our Therapists page first, and you are always welcome to request a different match if another connection feels right.
Most sessions are 53 to 60 minutes and range from $150 to $200 out of pocket. Rates vary by therapist and service type, and clients using insurance typically pay between $0 and $150 depending on their plan. We also offer a sliding scale. Longer or specialized sessions may vary.
Yes. Every therapist on our team offers a sliding scale of $110 to $150 per session, and it works on the honor system. We don't ask for pay stubs or proof of income. You choose the rate you can sustain, and you can revisit it with your therapist if your circumstances change.
Coverage depends on each therapist's credentialing and the plans they are paneled with, so the list varies by clinician. Many of our therapists accept Medicaid/Husky, Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Cigna. We recommend checking your mental health benefits before beginning therapy so you understand your coverage, copay, and deductible.
We can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement by your insurance company. A superbill is an itemized receipt you submit to your insurer directly. Reimbursement depends on your out-of-network benefits, so it helps to call your plan and ask what they cover for outpatient mental health.
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost if you are not using insurance. A Good Faith Estimate reflects expected costs based on what is known at the time, and it is available on request or during intake. It is not a bill, and it may change if your care needs change.
We ask for 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule, which gives us time to offer the slot to someone else. Cancellations made inside 24 hours are billed at the full session rate, or, if we are unable to bill your insurance, at what your plan would have paid including your copay or deductible. That fee is waived if you reschedule within five business days.
Missed sessions are billed the same way, usually processed the next business day. Your therapist will hold the session for 10 minutes past the start time, after which it is considered a no-show.
Clients with Medicaid are never charged a late cancellation or no-show fee, and receive a separate consent form covering this policy.
If attendance becomes inconsistent over time, even with notice, your therapist will talk with you about whether the current rhythm is working or whether another provider is a better fit. The full policy lives in the informed consent paperwork you complete at intake.
Root & Return Wellness is a virtual therapy practice, licensed to work with clients located anywhere in Connecticut, with limited in-person availability in Madison, CT. Virtual therapy offers flexibility and comfort, allowing you to engage in the work from the safety and familiarity of your own space while receiving the same depth and quality of care.
Anywhere in Connecticut. Because our therapists are licensed in Connecticut, we can work with clients located anywhere in the state, whether you are in New Haven, Hartford, Fairfield County, or a small town in between. We cannot work with clients located outside Connecticut, even virtually.
Sessions are 53 to 60 minutes. Most clients begin with weekly sessions, though frequency can shift over time. You and your therapist will decide together what rhythm best supports your growth and capacity.
Not at this time. Our therapists currently work with adults 18 and older. If you are looking for care for a younger client, we are glad to point you toward Connecticut providers who specialize in that work when we know of someone with availability.
We offer individual, couples, and family therapy for adults. We do not currently offer group therapy. Availability varies by therapist, and each clinician's specialties are listed on their profile.
Yes. All clinicians at Root & Return Wellness follow applicable federal and state privacy laws, including HIPAA. Your information will not be disclosed without your written authorization except in circumstances required or permitted by law, such as a risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult, or a court order. Your therapist will review this fully with you during intake.
Root & Return Wellness does not provide emergency services. If you are in immediate crisis, please contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, where you will be connected with a trained crisis counselor. You can also go to your nearest emergency room or call 911. We care deeply about your safety, and we encourage you to reach out to professional support right away if you need it. Once you are safe and stable, we welcome you to connect with us about ongoing care.
No. Our therapists are licensed clinical social workers and licensed mental health clinicians, and prescribing is outside their scope of practice. If medication is something you want to explore, your therapist can talk with you about it and, with your written permission, coordinate with your prescriber so your care stays connected.
Tell us. Fit matters more than almost anything else in therapy, and you are always welcome to request a different match. If no one on our team is the right person, we will point you toward another provider we know is accepting new clients. We would rather help you find the right fit than have you stay somewhere that is not working.
Ask us on our Get Started page and someone from our team will get back to you.
